It's too bad that my sample of the Alois 2018 Pallagrello Nero Murella was not perfect (and, unfortunately, I did not have access to a second bottle). This is a thick and richly concentrated red wine that sits heavy in the glass with a near impenetrable appearance. Fermented in oak and aged in botte for two years, the bouquet reveals dark plum, blackberry preserves, black olive and scorched earth. I also got a hint of cork taint, which explains the question mark next to my score. This is an important full-bodied Campania red to pair with a hearty winter dish of steak and porcini mushrooms.
