The current release is 2018 - Trebulanum is always held back for extended ageing in bottle. Morrone is the vineyard name, a 4ha parcel split evenly between the varieties pallagrello bianco and nero, planted in calcareous soils at 350 m above the volcanic plains of Volturno. The pH is intriguingly always lower in pallagrello from volcanic soils at lower elevations, on average about 3.1 pH compared to 3.4. I love the aromatics: smoky and flinty, and the saline, even lightly tannic palate with pleasant astringency and bitterness in tow. More of a wine lover's wine, singular to be sure, not severe but original. Cellar for another 2-3 years. 13.5% alcohol. Tasted May 2024.
