I have long admired the work of the Alois family who run an estate near Caserta focused on two ancient varieties: the white Pallagrello Bianco and the red Casavecchia. Both are highly distinctive, though the 2021 Casavecchia steals the show with its core of cherry fruit over a big layer of tannins.
