A new producer working with Riccardo Cotarella, and their first wine is based on the Casavecchia grape, virtually on the brink of extinction a few years ago but now staging a comeback in vineyards near Caserta, to the north of Naples. I am not sure that the winemaker actually fermented the grapes, but he appears to have arrived in time to do the necessary work of shaping the wine, to judge by the bright medium ruby color, the well expressed black fruit on the nose, and the focus, freshness, and firmness of the flavors, which augur well for future editions of the wine.
